Avoidance: The hallmark and gold standard of controlling allergic reactions is simple avoidance. Alcohol or ethanol can actually mimic an allergic response (which is an immunologic reaction) by causing flushing, itching and possibly hives by dilating blood vessels in people who might respond in this manner. Either way identifying the trigger and avoiding that trigger is paramount.
