A member asked:

Can you be allergic to alcohol? how does that happen and why? what are the symptoms?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No.: Allergy does not occur with small molecules. However, some people can be very sensitive to alcohol. Many asians lack the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase which leads to a build up of acetaldehyde and consequent facial flushing which might be incorrectly interpreted as allergy.
