Trauma: The most common cause for lumps on the ear cartilage is trauma. A piercing or a hit to the ear can cause lumps in and around the cartilage. Under the ear skin is an unusual location for tumors, but the skin of the ear is a common site for skin cancer. Infection can also cause a lump, but most common infections are associated with pain and redness too. If the area is enlarging, seek medical care.
