Probable virus: This is most likely the beginning of a viral upper respiratory tract infection which usually goes on to a head cold and runs its course in several days or a week without any specific treatment. However if the sore throat worsens and there is no head cold symptoms, a rapid throat culture is recommended to look for strep throat which requires antibiotic treatment. Meanwhile use lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen).

Likely viral infxn: At this time, continue to monitor your situation. If you start having a fever, more white spots in your mouth, neck lymph nodes inflammation, nausea/vomiting, I would go get examined. Otherwise, continue symptom treatment (honey, lozenges, salt water gargle) and hopefully your illness resolves within 1 week. Best of luck!

POSSIBLY PUS: Go to the doc and get checked out for strep throat. Most sore throats are viral in origin but strep is a bacterial infection and may warrant antibiotics.
