Not unheard of: It's not terribly unusual to feel some premenstrual cramping shortly before starting your period. Other premenstrual symptoms can include nausea, breast tenderness or swelling, abdominal pain and/or bloating, fatigue, and/or hot flashes among others. I wouldn't worry too much about the cramping and would advise some Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil to help with symptoms that are more bothersome.
