It depends: Genital herpes is caused by a virus. Usually, even after treatment, it returns. Sometimes you get new lesions very often and sometimes only once or twice a year. The good news is that eventually it "burns out" and no longer returns. The bad news is that it may happen quickly or take a few years of outbreaks until it stops.
