More info needed: This symptom is nondiagnostic as more information about it is needed. Causes include muscular strain or inflammation, pinched nerve, or lung disease. If your rib cage is tender a rib inflammation or injury is possible. Your physician can take a thorough history and perform a physical examination which may lead to xrays if needed for diagnosis. If you can take them,NSAIDS like ibuprofen may help.
