A member asked:

If a 91 year-old has been successfully treated for pneumonia then how many weeks would it usually take for the patient's immune system to normalise?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. John Chiu answered

Upon recovery: When a person recovers from an illness, the immune system starts to wind down but the IgG antibody to that strain of organism will remain elevated (protective) for months if not years after. If this person has not received pneumonia vaccine yet, get Prevnar (pneumococcal vaccine) first followed by pneumococcal -23 6 months later. If he has already received pneumo 23, then get Prevnar (pneumococcal vaccine).Annual flu vaccine should be given
