Unusual!: Abnormal odors to the stool and most commonly caused by various types of food/drinks, or infection. Persistent or recurrent chemical type odors are concerning for a problem with metabolism, but these disorders are usually picked up early in infancy. Children with metabolic disorders usually do not grow well and may have developmental delays.
