A member asked:

What are the tests for necrotizing enterocolitis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Xray: Premature babies who have feeding problems, stomach distention, rectal bleeding, vomiting, etc. Are at risk for nec. Usually a simple x-ray of the abdomen can detect gas in the lining of the intestine or gas outside of the intestine which suggests perforation. Blood tests can be abnormal, but they are non-specific.
