A member asked:

If in hyperthrophic nose, the turbinates need to be shrinked, does that mean in atrophic nose they need to be increased? they seem opposites.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not exactly.: In atrophic rhinitis, symptoms tend to be uncomfortable nasal dryness, excessive crusting, nosebleeds, decreased sense of smell, and sometimes even poor sensation of airflow through the nose when breathing. These issues would not improve if the nasal linings were enlarged/hypertrophic. Treatment centers around nasal moisturization techniques and saline irrigations for maintenance.
