Have a doc look ASAP: If for no other reason than to make sure you won't do any major damage lifting your son. A couple of wrist braces may make a big difference. You need to rule out fracture &make sure that swelling doesn't cause impingement of the median nerve (a carpal tunnel like phenomenon due to injury). Because in that instance you could do real damage to the function of your hands unintentionally. Ice for now.
