Exterminator: If they are in your walls that is usually ok, no severe issues, but you need to call an exterminator and get the squirrel problem taken care of, as eventually they may venture out and there is always the possibility of rabies etc with wild animals. Be safe, be well!

Not ideal: As squirrel urine and feces can expose people to the salmonella bacteria which can lead to "unpleasant" gastrointestinal infections. They can also expose you to ticks and fleas which may carry disease. Furthermore, the can introduce allergens like fur, dander and other pollens that they may carry into your home, and sensitize predisposed lungs.
