Baby oil: I was trying putting some baby oil on it, and gently lift it with a baby comb.

Probably hurts: Cradle cap itself can cause hair loss just by its presence. Soaking the scalp for 10 minutes with baby or coconut oil, then gently combing with fine tooth comb should gently remove the scales with less irritation. You may need to repeat this a couple of times, but slow removal is less irritating than pulling off dry plaques. Good luck
