Can a urine test determine wether or not someone has trichomoniasis?

Dr. James Lin answered

Here are some ...: Less than 30-35% of trich-infected men are symptomatic; occasionally, some of such men are found to have trich on routine urinalysis. If in doubt, collect the first part (10cc) of the first morning urine and send in freshly for microscopic UA or do wet mount microscopic exam for urethral swab specimen. So, seek pro-evaluation & counseling timely.

Yes: When tested via a urine sample – it should be a 1st void sample – the first 20 to 30 mm of urine of initial stream should be used. The person should not have urinated for at least an hour prior. Most STD screens don’t include Trichomoniasis.
