Preventable: causes are the most common including untreated infection, attempted abortion, unmanaged hypertension, blood clots, bleeding. Other causes include medical conditions unrelated to pregnancy that are coincidental but serious enough to cause death. Good prenatal care lessens the risk of all causes or maternal death. 99 % of maternal deaths occur in developing countries.
