A member asked:

Hi is it normal to use asprin for 2 years after asd open heart surgery because i read it that 6 months are enough in an asd surgery to use aspirin 100

A doctor has provided 1 answer

ASD closure successf: If your ASD was successfully closed as confirmed by post op echo and you are in sinus rhythm then aspirin is probably no longer necessary, but if there is still leakage or abnormal rythms or cardiac architecture, aspirin may not be a bad idea. Aspirin has been shown to have other benefits especially in people over 40 so you should discuss discontinuation with your cardiologist.
