Hiccups: are due to rapid involuntary spasms of the diaphragm, which is a large muscle that lies just below your lungs. If your hiccups are very strong, you may have pain in that muscle itself or in any of its attachments. There are a few serious conditions in which you might find both symptoms: Hepatitis is the most common. Also pancreatitis, ulcer and obstruction. See your doctor if pain continues.
