Need specific types: There are many types of heart tablets and several types of antacids. The generic name and dose of the medications will be needed to better understand whether they are compatible. It's best to ask your pharmacist or doctor to look for possible interactions.

Which one?: We generally discourage the PPI type medication, such as Prilosec, Nexium, (esomeprazole) Protonix or Prevacid in those with heart disease who take Plavix (Dexiilant is an exception). The other types of antacid should be ffine.

Depends on which med: Some heart meds may not be absorbed as well if certain antacids are taken within a couple hours of taking the heart med. Tums, Maalox and Mylanta are the common ones that can do this. The pharmacist can tell you if it's a problem with your meds. Meds for stomach acid like Zantac, (ranitidine) Pepcid, etc usually do not interact with heart meds.
