If you have had unprotected sex with a male in the last 30 days and this is happening, you should make sure you aren't a) pregnant or b) having symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection. A HPT designed to detect early pregnancy should help answer the first question. The second you will want to see a doc about 4 pelvic exam, even if no sex last month.

Fairly normal: Most women do not have periods that follow an EXACT pattern of 28 days, (although it may be more regular if you are on birth control pills). It is not uncommon for women to skip a month or have a very light period one month, and a heavy one the next. In your case, it sounds like you may have just had an early, light period. There was some old blood in the vagina, and blood turns brown with time.
