Lip cyst: It doesn't sound like a Canker sore. Please see your parents. You are too young for us to advise on this forum.

OTC medication: Over the counter medications like Zilactin and Orabase will help. Presciption for Kenalog (triamcinolone) in Orabase also helps.

Canker sores: Canker sores ( aphthous ulcers) typically last 1-2 weeks and heal on their own. Be careful not to irritate the sore, stay away from spicy foods. Get Orabase Ointment OTC at the pharmacy. This is an oral bandage that will stick to the sore. Place it on the sore before meals to protect the sore from irritation.

MILK OF MAGNESIA (magnesium hydroxide): A little known but great tip about treating a canker sore is using MILK OF MAGNESIA (magnesium hydroxide) in small amounts applied with a Q TIP to the sore! This is assuming there is not a bacterial infection of the sore itself! Give it a try! Hope it helps Dr Z

Canker sore? or ?: First we need to make sure what you diagnosed is truly a canker sore and there is nothing else that is causing the swollen lip. Canker sores do not generally cause lip swelling usually resolve on their own within 10-14 days. I suggest you see a dentist to evaluate your symptoms and suggest treatment if necessary and appropriate.

Not typical: Canker sore or pathos ulcers occur inside the mouth. Cold sores or herpes typically effect the lip. See a dentist for diagnoses and the best treatment.
