MANY TESTS/REASONS: Liver function studies are tests that measure the way the liver is working. Some measure the effectiveness of the liver cells themselves others measure the "excretion" of the enzymes and "end products" of metabolism. The symptoms you mention are VERY NON-SPECIFIC and may be due to abnormal liver function as well as a host of gastrointestinal conditions. Hope this helps Dr Z
