Transrectal: A transrectal prostate ultrasound is technically very good but is not a screening tool unless correlated with a PSA blood test and a doctor's exam. A prep to clean the colon is usually given and the ultrasound probe is inserted into the rectum with a latex covering over it. If done with a urologist, any suspicious abnormality could be biopsied at that time. Consider MRI with an endorectal coil.
