Several things: Intrinsic conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, dry skin, viral rashes; extrinsic conditions such as allergic dermatitis (cosmetics, fragrances), foods, bites, stress, urticaria (hives), just to name a few off the top of my head...many things. Common conditions often are self-limited, but a few need to be checked out and treated (such as drug allergy).
