No!: Not at all; there is not even a universal 'gold standard.' pid is common and delays in treatment result in important health problems, so diagnostic guidelines try to identify patients with pid and start treatment early. These guidelines allow flexibility in diagnosing, and even some over-diagnosis simply to avoid missing questionable cases that wouldn't get treated promptly.
