Gene therapy: Any stem cell or organ transplant will replace a patients tissues with that of another person, thereby changing the genome of the cells in the body. Gene therapy, in contrast, would use a patients own cells and just change a few genes. So far it has only been used in small experimental situations, but it holds enormous potential for people with inherited diseases such as sickle cell anemia.
