Gradual taper: Depends upon how much you are taking and how long you have been on it, but decreasing your dose by 2-5 mg every 3-5 days is a reasonable goal. Diazepam has a very long half life which is the time it takes to get half of it out of your system. Diazepam itself has a half life of 3-4 days and the active metabolite has a half life of over a week which means that some of it will be in your body a month
