It depends on the: Type of exercise. All exercise can lead to some element of "wear and tear" changes. But weight bearing exercise like walking or resistance training can also serve to improve or at least keep bone density stable. Yoga can serve to improve flexibility and joint position awareness. Swimming is great for those with arthritis and provides a great total body work out.
