US is better: OB docs will use your period to assess how far your pregnancy has progressed. they will also use your ultrasound to assess progress in your pregnancy. If those two measures are within a certain range, your period is used to date your pregnancy. However, if your US results show significant discordance, then the US is used. The reason behind this is that people can have irregular periods etc.
