Trash it: Throw the aspirator away. I wouldn't recommend buying another one at this point. If the baby is not better within the next three to four days, have him examined by a physician. If he has cough and fever, he should be seen within 24 hours! I hope he's feeling better soon!

Get a new bulb: Don't know if there is mold, but simply get anew Bulb Syringe aspirator-and keep it clean by flushing with hot soapy water after use and letting dry, and make an appt. with your pediatrician to have your son evaluated. Best wishes.

Likely: Given that the bulb is expected to be moist and there has been no airflow inside, the black stuff is most likely mold which might have fed on the backwash from the nasal secretion. Get a new one now and be sure that you disassemble the bulb from the dropper after each use to make sure that everything is cleansed and dried out . You also try rinsing it out with alcohol as well .
