Foreign body: is a common cause for pain in one eye (e.g., an eyelash, mascara, etc.). Other causes can be corneal abrasion or infection or even a torn contact lens (if you wear them). Try flushing the eye out and see if this helps. If you are having any blurred vision or discharge from the eye, then you should see an eye doctor or your PCP for further evaluation.

Possibly a stye: Eyelid irritation or pain without obvious signs of a noticeable red bump maybe an early stye developing. If there is a feeling of swelling & tenderness with massaging the eyelid, try using moderately hot washcloth compresses for 10' 3-4 times/day followed by gentle cleansing with baby shampoo on the washcloth.
