Undescended testicle: Infants whose testicles are not noted to be present in the scrotum should be closely monitored , as they may drop on their own within a few months. If not, abdominal ultrasounds are indicated to locate them and intervention via tacking into the scrotum (preserves fertility and appearance) or complete removal (to reduce cancer risk) is necessary.

Fertility & cancer: Testes should be brought down as soon as possible to maximize fertility potential, which in any case ir reduced even if testes can be brought down surgically. Risk of testicular malignancy from intra-abdominal undescended testes is about 4%. Testes should be placed in scrotum so that a testis tumor, should one develop, can be diagnosed early with a virtual 100% cure rate.
