A member asked:

Is dystolic more important than systolic when taking a bp reading ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Controversial: Systolic BP is the maximum pressure in your arteries with a heart beat. Diastolic BP is resting pressure in your arteries between heart beats. Current 2013 guildines found Grade E (poor/opinion) evidence for treating Systolic BP > 140 in those aged <60 and Grade A (very good) evidence for treating Diastolic BP >90. This may indicate diastolic BP is more important but depends on level of each.
