A member asked:

Can nilstat (nystatin) vaginal cream be used externally? doc said outside but pharmacist wrote internal. for treating vaginitis. antibiotics haven't worked.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusing perspectiv: By convention, docs consider "internal" to mean you inject or take a medicine by mouth. External, by convention means you apply it to a body surface. The inside of your vaginal tissues is an outside surface from the docs perspective when it applies to this kind of treatment. The confusion is more about how different people use the words.
