Usually: Physicians put patients with pain or bone loss and Vitamin D deficiency on huge doses once a week or for one week then drop it down to a lower dose. It is true that some find that to cause bone pain and GI upset. In that case you may want to try 4000 units a day for a few weeks and then go back down to 2000 units a day and have your blood levels rechecked at three months. Also use D3, not D2.
