Are you: sure they didn't say HPV? A majority of genital warts are caused by Human Papilloma Virus. There is no correlation between warts and HIV other than some people have both. Just as some people have herpes and HIV. Relax they made a mistake or you heard wrong!

Not necessarily: In South Africa -- and especially among black South Africans -- having gential warts undoubtedly is a strong predictor of having HIV. (Not so in industrialized areas like Europe, North America, etc.) But even in SA, most people with warts do not have HIV. However, the only way to know is to be tested -- and for sure everyone in your country with any STD needs to be checked for HIV. Good luck!
