A member asked:

Do mastocytosis patients need to pre medicate for iv contrast before a ct?

Good question: This question has never been addressed in articles I have read. Since radiocontrast can induce histamine release , only low-molecular dye should be used. Certainly premedication with large dose of antihistamine 2 hrs prior to the procedure won't hurt. Whether oral steroid should be added or not is up to the radiologist but I would certainly include it if the patient had a reaction before
