STDs are possible: Receiving anal sex does risk STDs of anus and rectum, especially gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, and syphilis. The same precautions are necessary as for vaginal sex: uninfected partner, condoms, etc. Non-STD problems include anal fissures and trauma with bleeding. The main symptoms of all these (STD and other) are discharge or mucus from anus or on stool, pain, and sometimes bleeding.
