Debated.: This is an important question that I would defer to those who study mycobacterial diseases (mycobacteriologists). I will say that the question of if leprosy is contagious, and how much, in this stage is debated. See http://www.bmj.com/content/3/5880/557. There is no consensus at this point, but there is some evidence that suggests that at least some spread occurs from subclinical cases. TTYD.
