What does it mean to say that someone has a critically high level of sodium (sodium 157 mmol/l). does it literally mean life-threatening?

Can be: Complications of severe hypernatremia are primarily related to brain dysfunction. Elevated sodium causes a shift of water ouf of cells which causes cell dehydration and neurologic symptoms. These may lead to seizures coma and permanent brain damage if not treated. Go to your doctor to find out the cause of the elevated serum sodium level and get the levels back to normal under MEDICAL SUPERVISION
