Geographic Tongue: If there is a a patchy "map-like" appearance, then this is possibly a geographic tongue which is a harmless condition, sometimes associated with another illness, cause unknown, and no treatment necessary. If this is a confluent (all over) thick white covering of the tongue, then it may be thrush, which requires treatment with a prescription.
