Yes and no: while similar transducer like radiofrequency tests, the evaluation is limited to a inside layer of the carotid. There is data suggesting this test evaluates cardiovascular risks. Your physician is obtaining what I consider a better option as it will demonstrate flow and possible "plaque burden". However, asymptomatic screening is not recommended by the USPMTF
