Sprain: You did not say if your ankle was turned in or out. If you had a severe sprain this can last a while The bruising suggest a rupture of some tissue as to cause the bleeding. This will hurt for some time such as up to 6 weeks.Ask you doctor if you need any further treatment as to recovery to full duty.

Ankle Smankle!!: After three weeks, it may still hurt, but the pain should be reduced from the time of the initial injury. Sometimes these injuries can take longer for the pain to resolve than the swelling. Continue with the instructions of your doctor.
