what causes mt hip to render me almost crippled after sitting or laying down and resides after i am up awhile?

Dr. John Velyvis

Osteoarthritis: Many people develop osteoarthritis from routine wear and tear over the years. With damaged cartilage, often there is pain and stiffness when first starting to move . The natural joint lubricant in the hip joint needs to re-coat the cartilage surfaces. It is best done by movement of the joint. Once a bit of movement takes place, the stiffness and pain diminish.

Provided original answer
Correct. Based on your symptoms, an evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon would be very useful.
