Coronary artery dz: Nicotine from smoking causes injury to blood vessels that supply blood to heart muscle.Eventually, plaque forms in the blood vessels.Plaque can rupture & a blood clot forms, blocking blood flow,so that part of heart is injured or dies. Many plaques grow into the wall of the artery rather than out into the opening where the blood flows, not showing up on tests & causing no symptoms until the rupture.
