Unusual: Acid reflux could cause vomiting but usually does not. A food intolerance is possible even after a night of no eating. See your doctor for evaluation

It is possible: for a 5 year old to have reflux and to throw up 8 hours after eating preceded by a burp, but at that age, it is usually only a small quantity. A large vomitus x3, esp if food present, would suggest delayed stomach empyting, which has various causes, including constipation. If your child has reflux, he would most likely have been a spitter as an infant, when the diet consisted of only liquids.
