Maybe normal.: Your wife should do a pregnancy test to exclude pregnancy. Spotting maybe normal with an iud especially with the paragard (copper) iud. It is also common with both forms of iud (copper or progesterone) in the early months after insertion. The spotting may also be ovulatory bleeding (if using paragard iud) due to the hormone change from estrogen to progesterone midcycle.
