Transverse refers: to a line that is perpendicular to the long axis of the bone. So for a vertically oriented bone, transverse means the fracture goes in a horizontal line across the bone or across the width of the bone ( but usually width is the shorter distance across for long bones) Other words used to describe fracture line are oblique, spiral, longitudinal, The effect depends upon where and in who it is in.
