Autoimmune disease: Myasthenia gravis is an illness where your immune system attacks your body and ends up affecting the way your brain communicates with your muscles. The disease tends to be progressive and starts with mild muscle weakness. The muscles usually involved are in the eyes, face, and/or mouth (swallowing, chewing), but can be anywhere on the body including those that control breathing.
