Apthous ulcers: Apthous ulcers (or canker sores) are commonly triggered by high acid foods and mouth irritantants, but sometimes they seem to happen for no reason at all. Their cause is not well understood. Cortisone pastes and creams designed to cling to the inside of the mouth can help them heal faster. These ulcers are thought to be a type of abnormal immune reaction. If they occur frequently, see your doctor.
